The power factor of UPS power supply is divided into input power factor and output power factor

The input power factor of UPS uninterruptible power supply is an important electrical performance index to measure whether it has pollution to the power grid. The input power factor of UPS in various circuit structures is also different. The input power factor of backup and online interactive UPS is equal to the power factor of the UPS output load. When the power supply is normal, its voltage regulation link does not have the power factor regulation function, but it itself does not add power factor distortion to the grid. The input power factor of the traditional double-transform UPS is usually about 0.8, which is independent of the nature of the output load. The input power factor of the conventional double transform UPS with high-frequency rectifier and the UPS with high-frequency transform series and parallel compensation circuit at the input end can often reach 0.99, and has nothing to do with the UPS output load property.

The output power factor of UPS uninterruptable power supply is determined by the nature of the load. In normal operation, the load must absorb not only active power from UPS, but also reactive power. For example, the load of computer type, the typical value of its power factor is 0.65-- 0.8. When the load power factor is low, the absorbed reactive power will be large, which will increase the difficulty of UPS inverter operation, increase the loss, and affect its reliability.
